Working From Home Webinar
Applying the ATO’s new guidelines in practice
Maximising deductions and understanding the options
CGT & the impact on the main residence exemption
The correct GST treatment
A Live Instructor Led Webinar
There has been a significant shift in work patterns over the last few years, with a considerable number of individuals now performing at least some of their work from their home. This shift has increased complexity as clients try to balance their desire for deductions while maintaining access to CGT concessions on the sale of the home.
On top of this the ATO has recently released new guidelines dealing with claiming expenses while working from home. The changes have been controversial and will have an impact on a significant number of clients who might not realise that the goalposts have shifted.
The Working from Home Webinar looks specifically at the issues that arise when clients work from home, including when business activities are carried on through a company or trust. We explore the complex issues that can arise under the main residence exemption when clients are able to claim deductions for occupancy costs in relation to their home and when there might be an opportunity to access the small business CGT concessions on sale of a client’s home. We also explore the GST issues that can arise when a client’s home is used in their business activities.

What we cover
Individuals who carry out employment duties or business activities from their home need to determine whether deductions can be claimed for occupancy or running costs and how the deductions should be calculated. With the ATO stepping up its focus on work related deductions and the ATO’s new guidelines on running costs, it is important that clients can support the deductions they are claiming from a technical perspective and with appropriate evidence.
The Working from Home Webinar steps through the practical issues that arise when clients perform work from home, including:
